This ride traverses the San Gabriel Mountains North of San Dimas, Claremont and Upland to Mount Baldy Village. As described this would require a pick-up from Mount Baldy Village. Other options would be to retrace the route back, or make a loop by descending down Mountain Avenue and returning via Baseline.
Getting there
The start for this trace was taken from the junction of Big Dalton Canyon Road and Glendora Mountain Road, reached by taking Grand Avenue North from the 210 freeway, turning right on Sierra Madre Avenue and continuing East almost to the end, turning left on to Glendora Mountain Road. You could also park along Sierra Madre Ave, for example in the junior school parking lot (corner of Sierra Madre and Loraine) - parking is generally not a problem anywhere in this area. The Ride
Taking the junction of Big Dalton Canyon Road as the 0 mile marker, begin ascending Glendora Mountain Road. After almost an hour of climbing you will pass a gate and reach a three way junction at 9 miles. Continue straight (not left) and pass another gate. The road continues 12 miles before dropping down into Mount Baldy Village.
Upon reaching the village turn left to reach the visitors centre and a couple of restaurants. From here you could drop down Mountain Avenue to Baseline Road, and use that to return to the start.
