This short road ride climbs through some pleasant residential areas, and uses the busy but wide Baseline road to complete the loop. The ride can be started from anywhere in the area along Baseline; I always start from Glendora.
Getting there
From the 210 freeway in La Verne, take the Foothill Blvd exit, drive West and turn right (North) on to N San Dimas Canyon Road. Park in the San Dimas Canyon Park area. Google directions to start
The Ride
Turn left upon leaving the park to begin a gradual climb up San Dimas Canyon Road. The entrance to the San Dimas Canyon Golf Course is on the left at 0.8 miles. Continue past the golf course until at 1.77 miles you turn right on to Golden Hills Road. The steepest climb of the ride starts here but does not take long. Stay on Golden Hills as it passes through a quiet residential area, with a golf course and small wilderness areas on the right.
Golden Hills transitions into Esperanza Drive at 3.2 miles, and the end of the climbing is reached shortly afterwards at 3.6 miles. The fast descent to Baseline Blvd follows. Upon reaching Baseline at 5.06 miles turn right. Although this road can be busy, it is wide with plenty of room for both cycles and cars. At 6.41 miles merge right on to Foothill and shortly afterwards at 6.69 miles turn right on to San Dimas Canyon Road, to return to the start.
