This is an out and back ride on paved road climbing South West from East Fork to Horse Canyon Saddle, the junction of Glendora Mountain Road and Glendora Ridge Road leading to Baldy village. Directions for this ride are based on parking at the end of the East Fork road, but this rides also makes an ideal extension to the East Fork ride.
Note this is a narrow road with many blind corners and when open to traffic is popular with motorbike riders. At the time of writing the road was closed and I shared the road with just a few cyclists going the opposite way.
Getting there
The start for this trace was taken from the parking area at East Fork Station, reached by taking Highway 39 in Azusa North approximately 9.5 miles from the Sierra Madre Avenue junction (last set of lights) to the East Fork turn on the right. Take East Fork 5 miles, and bear left to cross a wooden bridge. Continue to the parking area at the end of the road, or if full park at the side paying attention to the many no-parking signs. Note an adventure pass is required for parking in this area.. Google directions to start
The Ride
Ride back out of the parking area, to where the road connects at approximately 0.8 miles, and stay left to begin the climb. Views into the canyon are usually good at the start of the climb. Continue the climbing until after about 39 minutes and 5.73 miles you reach a saddle and three way junction. On the right Glendora Mountain Road drops down into Glendora (see the GMR from Big Dalton ride for details of that section). On the left Glendora Ridge Road takes off to Baldy village - the subject of a future ride. To extend the miles I recommend going left as this is rolling terrain and will not cause a lot of climbing on the return. For this trace I made the saddle a turnaround point and backtracked.
